Saturday morning we woke up in Eau Clarie, Wisconsin, where we had driven to the night before. We took our time in the morning, knowing it would be the only day we had to do that. We drove to the Wisconsin Dells, and were amazed at the sight of it … everything trashy all rolled up into one. Think carnival, fair, amusement park, backcountry kind of people … seriously, it was soooo weird. The main road had shops ranging in everything from pottery to southwestern garb to tacky t-shirts to beach (“resort”) wear. Um … that’s about all there is to say about that. It was so weird, did I mention that?? We ate lunch at a little cafĂ© there, which was decent, but other than that, we just walked around and made our way back to the car. I guess maybe if we would have gone to one of the 10 waterparks it may have been a bit different, but as it was, the Wisconsin Dells was just plain bizarre.
We tried to find a cheese factory, since we were in Wisconsin, after all. However, we learned that all the factories are only open during the week. So we stopped at a Cheese Chalet and also found the Mousehouse Cheesehouse. ha ha ... not much more than a fancy gift shop with expensive cheese, but we had to check it out. We did have fun laughing at all the names of some of the shops … “Curds and Whey,” a “Cheese Castle,” etc.
Onward we drove, to Milwaukee. We checked into the hotel, and then headed to Miller Park. It was awesome.
When we were walking in, I even noticed the slide at the stadium (which turned out to be kind of name, and only for the mascot to slide from one level down to the next). It was beautiful outside and in though.
They played the Pirates, and the Brewers easily won the game. We had great seats there, and enjoyed the play – both on and off the field.
As for the not-so-lucky fan in front of us, he was our unfortunate 'fan of the game' that I took a picture of ... enough said.
Some crazy drunk guys got kicked out of the game near the end. Its always funny to me when the fans are cheering louder for the security guards than the baseball players! Miller Park was fabulous though - I'd heard rave reviews about it, and was definitely not disappointed.
After the game, we went to a place called “Kopp’s Custard” – apparently a famous Milwaukee custard shop. It was very tasty! It brings a new meaning to the name of the custard shop by my hair salon here in VA – “Milwaukee Custard” ;)
