I went back to the ENT this week. After telling me that the hole in my ear is now only 1mm and has healed by at least 50% in the last two weeks, coaxing the skin over my eardrum together with something that really hurt (and made me feel like I was going to pass out right there on his table), and sitting in a small box-like cave to take a hearing test, he gave me the go-ahead to swim again - of course wearing earplugs and pulling my swim cap over my ears. Hooray! Thank goodness since the triathlon is next weekend! I was skeptical about getting into the pool again, so last night was the test. The results? Success. No water in my ears, no passing out, and I swam 40 laps (ok 20 if you are counting the 'real' way but that is just too slow for me) - which is good since we swim 1/2 mile in the triathlon (equivalent to 32 laps). Now I just have to figure out how to do it in the Atlantic Ocean ... and I'm set ;)
Hopefully my pool is open this weekend so I can do a mini triathlon test tomorrow. I'm loving my new bike and the Nike+ chip that I bought a few weeks ago (thanks Anne for the recommendation)! Too bad we can't use iPods in the triathlon.
